Buyer Beware
2007-11-22
|
If considering this printer you need to know that it won't print in just plain "black and white" if any of the colour ink cartridges are empty, even if both black ink cartridges are full ! I was infuriated to find that I needed a magenta cartridge before I could print out my CV, which (a) needed only black ink and (b) was needed in a hurry !
Be prepared to keep a stock of cartridges on hand - sadly, the printer doesn't offer you any options in this situation.... |

Nice Printing But Terrible Paper Handling
2007-05-13
|
After only a few weeks of use, paper started jamming, in this printer.
This problem only got worse with time.
I am currently on my second unit (Canon sends you a used/refurbished unit as a replacement) and still having the same problem. Paper randomly jams in the transport and the printer has to be turned upside down and opened, in the back, to try and get the torn paper out.
Sometimes it just tears the edges of the paper, like Jaws.
This printer prints text and graphics well but otherwise it's been a real lemon. The paper handling on this unit really stinks! I had a Canon IP series printer before and it worked well for almost two years.
The Ip5200 has been a major bust! Consumer Reports was dead wrong about this unit or did I just get two lemons in a row? |

Best Quality and some advice

I do alot of scrapbooking. I scan my old pictures, burn them for safekeeping and then reprint them on this printer they look wonderful. I have even scanned objects such as lace doilies and printed the out for my scraping. It is easy to use and does not take up much space on my desk. I get most of my photo paper at places like Big Lots and Aldi's. The Dollar Stores I went to recently have acid free photo paper as well and this printer does a great job on it as well. The ink cartridges are better bought in the 4 pk containing all the colors rather than singularly. It is much cheaper on you.
This Printer is worth every dollar. I recommend it to any one professional and otherwise. |

Canon PIXMA iP5200 Photo Printer

| An excellent printer for color prints. However, if your use is 90% black and white and only 10% color, there are better printers. |

Great printer for the money!

| I purchased this printer for the office because I had such good luck with a similar model at home. There is consistant quality in everything I print on this machine. It is especially reliable for matching the colors expertly on photos and graphics. I would highly recommend this Canon printer to anyone. |
