Great pinter... if you can find one anymore! 2007-12-02
In the past I always went with Epson. But the last Epson I had was junk so thought I'd try Canon. What a great machine the ip 5000 is. I print QSL cards on it using a thicker stock and they look great. Day-to-day printing is good as well. The price per printed page is very low as the ink is about the cheapest of any out there. I like that it has both a cassette feed for quick printing and a auto top feeder for other types of stock such as photo paper. It prints boarder-less and not all printers will do that, it looks great! It was easy to share with both my desktop and our laptop. Ever once in a while I hve to run the head alignment utility and the head cleaning utility but that puts it right back like new. The initial cost was cheap as well, so what's not to like??
Great Print, Poor Quality 2007-03-03
Purchased in November 2005 which makes it less than 16 months old. Was getting orange error code lite that blinked 14 times, not even in the book. Emailed customer service and they were real nice and provided wrong solution via email but were good enough to provide me with a toll free number that costs 9.95 per chat. On to the internet where I found that the orange lite that blinks 14 times says a problem with paper feed cam sensor. Wrote back to customer service asking if a little compressed air would help and they said try it. They also said they would let me purchase another one at discounted price, big of them. Had always had good luck with Epson, think I'll pass on their offer and get another Epson. Good luck.
Excellent picture and document quality! 2007-01-29
Not sure why others have had issues with this printer but I have been 100% satisfied. I have printed more than 300 professional quality 4x6 photos from my IP5000 and am printing more as I write this review. I came to Amazon.com this evening to order more ink for my printer actually! This will be the 3rd set of ink cartridges that I've went through, second after the original ones that came with the printer. The printer is very efficient with ink as well. I have printed at least 20+ letter sized (8.5x11) photos from it on the past two cartrides as well. One nice feature is that the document, black and white, print jobs are handled by a separate cartridge so you will always have the ability to print documents in case you forget to order your photo printing cartridges.

I did see that someone (earlier review) is replacing their cartridges for less than $17 but I don't think that's possible with Canon branded ink. Canon branded ink is the least expensive of the major brands but I've never seen that great of a deal online.

I use Canon ink and paper and have printed many documents and photos with no issues for the past 2 years on my IP5000. Bottom line, the best printer I've ever owned! Next one is the Canon PRO9000 ($499)

I shoot photos with a Canon 30D with L glass and touch them up in Photoshop CS2. I'm no professional by any means but I do demand quality prints from my shots and this IP 5000 delivers everyday.

Good day!
Doesn't Last 2006-08-27
I bought this based upon the reviews here last year. So much for community info. It has already started "banding" in less than a year. A new print head is about $125. It clogs very often, possibly because I use cheap ink from "Printpal." Maybe it would do better with Canon ink, but I never tried it. The separate color cartridges are a plus. This is the first time I tried Canon. I'm going to go back to HP and try a Laser printer to replace this useless piece of $#^*.
great start, dissappointing finish 2006-08-20
Loved the print quality, speed, cost per page.
Now my second one has failed with the same problem as the first (both lasted less than a year).

Photos all look green, tried replacing all the ink cartridges. If you're like me and don't have the time or patience to mess around with warranties etc. you may want to look elsewhere.
