Photo Printer or Scanner Reviews Writed by Customer
Great for the price ! 2006-10-04
I purchased this scanner used, for $10 from the local Habitat for Humanity store- they even gave me a 7 day performance guarantee !! Not bad !

Installation was very easy. I downloaded and installed the latest driver version from the Epson website. WinXP recognized the scanner upon connection and configured the driver(s) for me. After installation, I am able to use the scanner with Epson native TWAIN software, WinXP Scanner applets or PS Elements 2. Scans so far have been excellent, either of photographs, important documents or magazine articles. I have had no problem copying an image or text from the preview screen into a document or saveing a high resolution scan. I have not taken the time to explore the color management features of the Epson TWAIN driver, so I can not fully comment on the ability to color manage or restore photographs, slides and/or film. So far I have tended to use PSE 2.0 for those tasks. Others have commented that the Epson software is complete and usefull- I'll leave it at that.

Overall, I am very happy with my purchase (hah !).

5 stars for value, but 4 stars for absolute quality. More recently produced scanners are capable of yielding much better overall scan quality for critical applications.

My previous scanner was (is really, I still have it) an HP PSC 750, all in one. The HP 750 is easier to use for basic functions because it has fewer feature choices and is faster to deliver a completed scan. On the other hand, output quality from the 2400 is much better than what the HP machine is capable of. That said, I still use the HP for non critical direct to paper copying. Because I do not use an Epson printer, I have go through the computer to make a paper copy from the 2400. For non critical work, this takes too much time.

Given that the 2400 is now several generations old, it should be cheap to aquire. If you need a cheap utility scanner, look no further.
NOT RECOMMENDED 2005-11-19
Controls and instructions for this scanner are awful, and mine developed a habit of quiting just as it was completing the scan! Epson support would never answer the phone. I am using Mac 10.4.3.
Great quality and easy to use 2005-09-07
My previous scanner was an SCSI device, and when I upgraded my computer, I was faced with the choice of installing an SCSI card or upgrading to a new USB compatible scanner. I'm glad I chose to buy this scanner. Installed on a Windows XP machine, the installation was simple, and the user interface options allow me to control the scanning operations with very little effort. I've had no problems with the software, and the scanned images are more than adequate to print 8x10 enlargements from my old 35mm negatives.

I especially appreciate the transparency scanning capabilities, which allows me to scan old photographs from the negatives rather than the prints. This provides me with better control over the final appearance of my images, and has allowed me to archive much of my early photography in digital format. This scanner is a great value.
This scanner ROCKS! 2004-08-22
I needed a scanner for a bunch of slides that I needed to preserve and this was it. After some research I found this was by far the best scanner for the money and I'm glad I bought it. The very first scan blew my mind and even after doing a bunch it's still amazing how good the quality is using this. There is a light in the cover that turns on when scanning slides or even negatives, this acts to light the slide and not distort the colors. I have read some reviews about buggy software with this scanner, but I simply downloaded the drivers directly from Epson's site and used them to install the scanner and have had no problems.
Buy An Epson - Save A Tree 2004-07-27
Owned this scanner two days. So far so good however,
you need not worry about losing your user manual because there
isn't one. HTML help files and a quick start guide is all
that's provided - not even a pdf document.
