| Amazon.com Product Description |
| Hobbyists and small businesses will greatly benefit from the versatility and value of the Microtek Scanmaker 5600. Its 4,800 x 2,400 dpi optical resolution (9,600 dpi enhanced) and 48-bit color infuse your images with outstanding clarity and richness, enhanced by the Sigma 6-CCD technology, which provides six image sensors, rather than the traditional three. Five one-touch operating buttons make the 5600 simple to use when copying, e-mailing, or scanning images directly to the Web. The maximum scan area is 8.5 by 11 inches, and the 4-up scanning allows up to four photos at once. The scanner connects to your PC or Macintosh via USB interface, and it includes a software bundle of Adobe imaging products (Adobe Photoshop LE 5.0, Adobe PhotoDeluxe 4.0, and Adobe Acrobat Reader), as well as Ulead PhotoExplorer, ABBYY FineReader Sprint OCR, Kodak Digital Science Color Management, and Microtek management utilities. A USB cord and power cable are in the box, and Microtek provides a one-year warranty. |

Great Scanner, PERIOD!
2002-09-24
|
| Most of the bad reviews I have read sound like software issues. If you can wait it out and get it to work out, you'll be very pleased with this scanner. The 4-up scanning saves time, the preview is fast, the one touch buttons are great, the quality is as good as scanners twice the price and the software is decent as well. Really, for the price, you know you can't beat it! I have had mine for a year now and love it. I am picky and demanding too. It has served me well through two versions of WIN98 and now with XP. I want the best for my money, and this is it! |

What a problem
2002-06-11
|
| I bought this scanner 6 months ago to replace a .. scanner that just wore out. After scanning one picture the computer lost the scanner. I would reinstall, scan one picture and lose it. The tech support was worthless they told me to unplug my other USB stuff, then they told me to reinstall the software, which was tough. No change. I bought a new computer with XP pre-loaded this machine cannot find the scanner. What a hunk of junk! |

Reliable, sharp scanner
2002-04-21
|
| I have had this scanner for about a year now, and it has proven reliable and steadfast. The images produced were true to color, and the machine works very fast. The product could use a better manual, though. Still, I like the scanner very much because of its image quality, price, and versatility. Versatility here is related to its ability to scan multiple pictures at the same time. And for the price, which I believe is at least a couple of hundred bucks lower than other brands of the same scanning power and quality, I believe Microtek 5600 is hard to beat. |

Microtek ScanMaker 5600 Headache Maker
2002-04-17
|
If you are looking for the headache, this scanner is a perfect source for it. I got this scanner, and after it did work fine for three weeks, it is causing nothing but headache for me after that. The scanner is locking up the computer after beginning of the scan most of the time. The troubleshooting manual recommends to uninstall and reinstall the software if that happens, but it does not help at all to fix the problem. I am using a HP scanner for last three years with no problems whatsoever with my DELL computer, but I needed scanner with higher resolution to be able to scan the film negatives. This scanner is certainly not the choice for that, or for anything else as a matter of fact. The product support over the phone is a long distance call, not a toll free number, so you will spend few bucks waiting for their useless response. Look for more reliable brands, and stay away from Microtek, that's my recommendation. Thank you Amazon for the opportunity to share my experience with this product. |

Fast and Versatile
2002-02-04
|
| I just recently bought this scanner for scanning in old photo albums as well as old newspaper and magazine clippings. For the versatility and quality of this machine you are getting a bargain. the four-up scanning saves a lot of time. The Microtek will allow you to scan in a variety of different formats so you no longer need to convert tiffs to jpegs-you can just scan into jpegs or gifs or whatever you want. It is great because you are able to save each picture as its own file. It comes with a utility that allows you to do color balancing and tone changes before you scan. You can also use this scanner to copy straight to your printer as well as doing one touch text and email functions. Bottom line, a great scanner at a good price. |
