Need to contact Canon in order to have this scanner useful for Windows XP
2009-01-08
|
| Windows XP being a more up-to-date version than CanoScan 630U was intended for, it was necessary to get technical support from Canon in order for me to use the product. I am pleased with the final result. |

Ahead of its time but definitely not Vista-compatible... yet?

The CanoScan FB630U is probably the best scanner you could find, if possible, for its performance like an AK47. I've had my FB630U for well over 7 years now and this thing has not failed me in the long run until now. Why? Because Canon does not support any drivers for it on the new Windows VISTA operating system. Honestly, if I could continue to use this thing, I would but Canon just hasn't stepped up this badboy with an updated driver for Vista to recognize it, otherwise this thing would last me a very, very long time.
I honestly cannot think of any cons to go with this scanner except the OS incompatibility I've just stated now but if you're running on a Windows XP format, you're squared away and you'll become very close with this product. The scans don't take that long, it can hit up some pretty high resolutions and DPI settings and keep on asking for more, and as an illustrator, I've scanned hundreds of images through this thing, countless numbers of photos and this thing still keeps on going; if it's safe to say, it's more dependable than the family dog.
Simple, efficient, not to mention one of the nicest looking scanners I've seen in a long time; they just don't make them like this anymore and that's a shame. If you manage to find one, grab hold of it and hope Canon realizes what a fantastic scanner this was and still is and that they give it the proper updated drivers treatment it deserves. Seriously, that's the ONLY thing holding this thing back for long run technology marathons. If you're looking for THE scanner to fit your 8.5 x 11 inch needs or can deal with sizeable scaling to fit large images through in portions, this scanner is your godsend.
** CANON, UPDATE THIS BEAST'S DRIVERS WILL YA?! |

| I've owned this model for about a year and it's the best scanner I've ever had. It's sleek, attractive and fast. It uses USB hookups and consumes little power. I'd highly recommend it. It has high-quality, 600 x 1200 dpi/36 bit color scanning. It's sleek, ultra-slim, just 1.5 inches tall. It has a programable scanning button for easy one-touch scanning. Has a USB port interface for easy PC and Mac connection. It's top quality, award-winning and comes with great software for creative projects. |
