Slow, good organizer, fairly happy
2008-11-10
|
I've used Paperport for a couple of versions on two different computers, and I'm fairly happy with my results.
The biggest problem I have had with Scansoft/Nuance products is in setting up the older versions and in registering/authenticating the newer versions. At my home we are currently using Paperport 10 and 11, Omnipage 15 and Omnipage Pro 16, Iris and Dragon -- the voice to type program, so we have had some experience with setting up Nuance products.
Paperport 10 was particularly hard to get going on our XP machine, but eventually, after a little help from the tech support, we did get it set up. Paperport 11 handled the setup well on our Vista machine with no problems.
Paperport integrates well with the Omnipage OCR programs, and scanning and text conversion seems to be better and quicker after we loaded Omnipage 15 on our XP machine. The Paperport 11 came with the Omnipage 16 Pro, and they do seem much faster in Vista (but that's also a faster machine).
Paperport works best as an organizer, but I also found it useful for assembling very large documents, for converting between pdf and doc files, and for including various types of files in a single document. I would definitely recommend ver. 11 over ver. 10, and with all Nuance/Scansoft products, the Pro versions are much, much more useful than the "regular" versions. (although usually about $100 more!)
Read the product descriptions closely for the different capabilities of the various versions. Paperport Pro 11 claims to work with network drives, which seems like a big improvement.
If you work with lots of documents or research, I think you will find Paperport to be helpful. |

Great product - and easy to use too
2008-10-05

| I put off ordering PaperPort because it seemed so complicated on my boss's computer (he has an older version). When I got mine, not only was it easy to use and understand, I was able to show my boss how he even made using his more difficult than it needed to be. He likes his better now, too! Thank you... |

Paperport- Like an abusive Spouse
2008-09-10
|
Like an abusive spouse, I keep reporting the crimes but keep going back to my office and buying Paperport scanners and then getting abused again and again and again..
I am a long time IT guy who has bought paperports since the day of the ones mounted to the keyboards. Remember those? Cool idea, awful tech support and no updates. Cut to 15 years later and nothing has changed.
For those of you out there beware of Paperport 11 especially upgrading it from 9 or 10. I just reinstalled 2 operating systems because the upgrade failed, then disabled the ability to use one touch. After many registry edits, cuts and pastes to the system32 files - both computers were unable to use 11. I started both over with a clean XP Install and then reinstalled Paperport 10 cleanly with a strobe XP200 and they worked. BEWARE OF 11!
I got received version 11 with a new Strobe XP220 which came with a bad (shortened pin) on the connector which I replaced with an old cable from one on my ever mounting IT scrapheap. Thankfully visionner decided to make all scanners with backwards compatible 17V Usb connectors (At least back as far as the Strobe Pro). Their Tech support, as I have found out from my annual call (after I buy several new scanners and they don't work)confirms that both their technical support and their software engineers continue to smoke weed somwhere between when they finish and then decide to actually test these things, and much like the "deeewwwds" at Microsoft Vista, they aren't really up much for making updates to fix the various problems; they'd rather just crank out the next version to make headlines about how revolutionary their software is for organizing your life.
Has anyone ever seen the Burning Bed?

Didn't Work with Vista 64
2008-09-07
|
After many hours of customer support, the software didn't work with Vista 64. The different Tech Support staff kept repeating the same steps the previous one had given me with no success. Finally in frustration I used the Warrannty Return Policy and returned the software to the manufacturer.
Still has bugs with Vista 64. |
