Super Lens at a Super Price 2008-03-29
This little 50mm f1.7 lens is very good for the price it's sold at. Granted, you get what you pay for, but what you get is a very fast lens w/ good bokeh. The built-in hood is a joke and there's no f-scale, but a good shootist can still get very memorable photos with this lens. If these items are a nuisance, then go get a good B&W metal hood and one of their excellent slim line UV haze filters and learn to judge distance. It's a good portrait lens on the 7D. BTW, to those who don't know, this lens is an auto-focus lens, hence MAXXUM. Maxxum means auto-focus. Getting this lens won't disappoint you.
A gem in a small price 2005-10-04
I own a former version of this lens. It is an autofocus lens and it can be used in manual focus mode. This one has a better grip on the focusing ring. This lens is built robust and the results are excellent. I keep it with me in case of serious sharpness is needed or there is not enough light to handhold.

Stopping down a few stops will give better results. I don't have the 1.4 version but the results are said to be the same after f:2.8.
autofocus? 2005-08-14
Advertised as an autofocus. Product description indicates that this is a manual focus lens. Appears to be a very good and fast lense for this price even though it's probably a manual focus.
