Polaroid Mio Film
2006-07-06
|
| I love this camera. I think it's a cute idea and fun for parties, etc. I'm not really here to talk about the camera, but give some hope to those who like using this camera as much as I do. I used mine a few times and then discovered that both the film and the camera were not being made any longer. After sending Polaroid a nasty email I decided to research. I FOUND FILM THAT WILL WORK IN IT!!! Fuji makes the same format camera as the Mio, which they call the Instax Mini. The Film is available in Europe and Asia (not the US unfortunately - probably because of Polaroid) - but anyway.... I have found some online through shops and ebay (search internationally on ebay). I got some, tried it out and it works!!! It's the same film format and packaging! Keep buying the film from Fuji so they don't stop making it!!!!!!! |

Film No Longer Manufactured

One star only because you can't get film anymore. Polaroid quit making the film.
I was interested in buying this camera because I'm sort of on a Polaroid kick right now. I went to polaroid.com and the site says that neither the camera nor the film is manufactured anymore. Too bad.
A fun Polaroid to get for which the film is still made right now is either the JoyCam or the Captiva. These both take Polaroid 500 film and take pretty good photos. The JoyCam sells at a certain auction site for about $5 and the Captiva sells for about $10. The Captiva is a much nicer camera than the JoyCam, has more features, is built better and looks cool. But, picture quality is really the same between the Captiva and the JoyCam, even compared to the Captiva SE model, which I have, that has a glass lens. I brought my JoyCam to work the other day and it's been a blast taking "blackmail" shots. I've used it to create a lot of laughter in an otherwise humorless office.
The 500 film as of today is still available at all the usual big chain drugstores. |

Since when did cameras come stocked with film? When you purchase a 35mm Camera does it come with film? NO. When you purchase a Medium Format Camera, does it come with film? NO.
This is a really fun camera. I suggest everyone sick to death of the digital microchip invest in Polaroid. No printer needed, no computer needed... just fun instant pictures that you get right away... you don't even have to wait for them to download to your computer... how cool is that? |

YOU GOTTA LOVE THIS, I DON'T CARE WHO YOU ARE!!!

I ordered this instamatic camera not really expecting much simply due to the fact that my granny had a polaroid instamatic when I was a kid and the pictures it took were not the best. I must admit, though, I was happily surprised. These little bitty pictures are the absolute cutest pictures. The colors are outstanding, just as good if not better than my 35mm. The images are completely sharp. I almost did not try it based on some of the other reviews that I read but am so glad I did. The only thing I would change if possible would be the size of the camera itself. It is much bigger than anticipated. But obviously that one point was not a big enough deal for me to lower my score by even half a star. It is true that film for this camera is not as easily accessible as other film but it is readily available thru amazon.
I would highly recommend this camera to anyone who is totally into instant gratification. I am giving two more as Christmas gifts. Check around, but if you are wanting clear, sharp, small pictures with wonderful color, this camera is for you. |

despite all of the move towards digital and such, i am still a huge fan of polaroid cameras. i own 4 different polaroids and this little mio is as great as the rest of them. although it is a bit bulky, the pictures are such a fun size and the new and more up-to-date features are fun to play around with. and i'm sorry, but everyone loves polaroids. you take someone's picture and give it to them right away. or retake it if you have to. and remember, even playboy only excepts polaroids if you want to be in the mag!! it's all for fun.
if you do have a hard time finding the film, just buy them online from amazon in bulk!! |
