Excellent little drive 2006-03-08
I have three of these now...they work great! I've used them to transport data files and for MP3 files. I have the Lexar Sport MP3 player that uses these USB drives for storing the MP3 files.

I did have one new drive that had a problem where the MP3 player "forgot" that the USB drive was in place. It was as if I had pulled the drive out of the player without shutting it off. Re-seating the drive fixed that problem and I have not seen that problem since. Maybe it was a fluke.

Getting it out of the packaging is a challenge, though.
disappointed user 2006-01-08
I have had the Lexar sport drive for 2 years and loved it. easy to use and worked like a charm until a few months ago, when I began to get messages that told me the drive was full. Deleting files didn't help and I finally realized that instead of 256 MB of memory, I had about 32 KB. So something happened along the way and the drive is now useless. I would not recommend this product.
Real Nice... 2005-12-29
I had this over 2 years now.. I and it is used with all my keys and I do use without any "proper care" I might say, and I am very pleased with it....

As for the indication of light on it, yes..
It has a tiny light, but it does not creat a big problem...

And you have to decide if you want your flash drive around your neck (not the case with this one) or with your keychain...

I give it a Great "GO FOR IT" with this one, since it has been serving me well...
I take it to my swimming practice table, which means it gets wet everytime I get out of the pool and pick the keys up in order to leave to the locker room, and never had a problem with it...
Sport yes.. Not extreme... Of course...

I am looking for a bigger size now... Of the same model...
You will definatelly like this one...
:-)
Works fine but not "Sport" 2005-12-21
I bought this drive primarily to keep on my keychain and because the cap wrapped around the body and I would not have to worry abut loosing caps. This worked well for about 2 months when, after the normal wear and tear of taking my keys out of my pocket, the cap popped at the point that conects to the key ring. I say popped not broke because the cap is made out of rubber-like material that I now realise is a glorified rubber band. Sport indeed. I had to resort to keeping the drive loose in my pockets, have long since lost the fragile thing, and am now wishing I had the frustration of loosing caps for a drive that is sucurely attached to my key ring.
Nice piece of equipment 2005-12-03
I have had this Lexar Sport flash drive for about a year and use it at least a few times of week. It floats around in the bottom of my briefcase, getting pounded by power adapters and other junk that I tote around. I have never had any problems with it - instant recognition on any computer, fast transfers, easy to use. I like the rubber cover because it stays on unlike the caps on other flash drives. I have had other flash drives but this one is a keeper. I wish they made a 1 (or more!) Gig drive just like it. I'm actually here now just to buy a few of these as gifts for friends, I like it that well.
A great entry-level jump drive 2005-11-20
I have a pretty old computer with USB 1.1, and it works beautifully. No drivers to install, and it's cross-platform compatible (Mac to Windows, and back again). It's sturdy and durable. There are no loose pieces to get in the way, and the keychain clip is secure. I honestly can't think of anything wrong with this product.
Decent drive but horrible design 2005-11-14
Works well BUT the top is not so easy to use. It is a struggle each time to pop it open. The band is too tight and it takes both hands and strong fingers to unlock it. There are lots of other drives that works as well without the problem.

Washable? 2005-10-25
The inevitable happened, I washed my Jumpdrive sport. It didn't spend too much time in the dryer; I use the damp setting so I don't have to iron. When I remembered, the drive was hanging upside down in the pocket of some denim jeans. I wiped a water drop off the connector and plugged the drive into a USB port. All the data was there. Next day, I checked some file sizes against files on my primary machine just to be sure. Definitely not a recommended procedure, however, it demonstrated a good product design, in spite of user error. As you might expect, the drive finally died about 6 months after the washing. I purchased a 1GB Sport as a replacement.
works well, good price, a little big, hard to use 2005-10-18
Works well and is a good price, but is a little big for comparable products and the rubber holder is hard to get on and off. The key loop should be part of the drive rather than part of the holder so if it comes off the holder, you don't lose the drive.
Good purchase. 2005-10-12
Works well. Very handy. Only slight drawback is the top is not so easy to attach to a key ring unless it is a very thin key ring. But, it works very well.
Wonderful Purchase 2005-10-10
I needed this drive for college. I bought it and have used it in home computer, work computer, and various computers on campus. It has been recognized immediately on every PC running Windows XP and has performed flawlessly. Definitely a great purchase, and with the rebate, it is an unbeatable price. Enjoy!
Lexar Jump Drive 2005-10-10
This drive was extremely easy to use and is very handy since you can attach it to your keychain. I haven't had any problems with it on several different computers and it is very fast data transmission.
Buen Producto 2005-10-09
Tengo alrededor de un mes con esta memoria y realmente me siento satisfecho con los resultados. Es muy rapido principalmente cuando trabaja en un puerto USB 2.O.
What's Not To Like? 2005-10-03
No moving parts, small to average in size, can use near-by USB ports because of the slim design, which is nice. The rubber cap and laynard take a little bit of time to master, but again, it is advertised as a memory stick and it does that just fine.
Great Flash Drive 2005-09-27
Product is very nice and can be used to play MP3 in the Jump Gear player of the same brand. Great Deal.
Lexar sport 2005-09-25
The lexar sport is all it is said to be. It is easy to use and does a great job. My only regret is that I did not get one with more mb memory.
I love my flash drive 2005-09-15
I am a college student and I get to work in many different computer labs across campus. It is so easy to take my work with me on my key chain. It is really nice not to worry about the difference between IBMs and IMacs. The flash drive fits into each! My campus also has many different ages of computers. Some have cd ports, some 3" disks, some zip drives, etc. but every one I have used has a USB port. So, if you are considering this product, go for it.
Very Convenient and Durable 2005-09-08
My other techno friends all use a jumpdrive type device to transfer files to and from work.

The reason this gets cheers from me is it's design; Lexar's keychain holder makes this so easy to carry and not forget at home (as my friends complain about), that I wouldn't consider buying another unit without that "sport" capability.
Great little device, good design 2005-08-29
Great device, works great and fast in Windows and Linux with no fuss. The design makes it excellent for keeping in a pocket, the rubber boot keeps lint and other junk from getting into the USB connector area and also adds some resistance to bending. It seems sturdier (stronger) than other designs.
Easy to use 2005-07-29
I have only used my Lexar Sport JDSP256-231 USB 2.0 256 MB USB flash drive once, but it was very easy to use and I quickly and safely transferred my files between two computers. I look forward to using it more in the future.
Durable but inconvenient 2005-07-29
This has been a durable jump drive. I've had it for a year now. The problem is I have to insert it 8 times before it is recognized by most computers that I try to use it on. That can be frustraing and inconvenient.
Love this Tool 2005-07-28
I have a smaller 128 and needed more space. I am a Tech and uses these almost every day. I love the protective rubber holder on these models.
Lexar Sport works so fast 2005-07-28
I am extremely pleased with the Lexar Sport 256 MB USB Flash Drive. I am on a Macintosh G4, running OS 10.3.9, and it works beautifully with my system. I was amazed at how quickly documents downloaded. I would certainly purchase another Flash Drive from Lexar.
It has a lousy cap 2005-07-13
The device works fine. But the cap is designed with utmost stupidity. It does not come with a lace.
There are many other sleek desig available in the market.
Had it for a year 2005-06-14
I've had the Lexar Sport 128 Meg on my key chain for about a year. Its been flawless. Its been through airport security a few times, no issues.
It's Great! 2005-05-26
The Lexar Sport Jumpdrive is a product that I'm very satisfied with. It's thin and can easily fit in all USB Ports. It's durable (for those accidental falls), and the cover is made to be attached to your keychain or neckchain, so you'll never lose it!
can get lost 2005-02-27
hi i was very happy with this drive however when i travelleld recently it some how fell out of the key chain
If you plan on using this with the Lexar MP3 player 2005-02-17
For those of you trying to decide what USB sport to get with the Lexar MP3 player: according to the Lexar site the 256 MB can store 4 hours of music vs. the 512 which can hold 8 hours.
Failed after eight months 2005-02-10
It was great . . . but now I see that my experience is the same as that of other purchasers.
just what I wanted 2005-01-25
I had been looking for an MP3 player that wouldn't cost me an arm and a leg so I came across the Lexar MPC-231 JumpGear MP3 Digital Music Player for JumpDrive Sport and the Lexar Sport JDSP256-231 USB 2.0 256 MB USB Flash Drive. This would be the answer to my problems. I didn't want the expensive MP3 players that were in the hundreds of dollars. When I listen to music I like to vary my songs frequently. The 256MB capacity allowed me to down load the right amount of songs that I wanted to listen too during a certain time period, then I could get more songs and put them on and I wasn't stuck listening to the same songs over and over again. The only problem I have is that a lot of my songs are on I tunes and that format is not supported, but I will just have to live with that I guess.
Just Not Reliable 2005-01-22
Although I realize that USB cards do die, this one just doesn't last long enough. I have bought two of these, the first from Best Buy, the second from Amazon. The first lasted about 6 weeks before dying completely. The last one lasted only 3 weeks or so.

Owners I know using non-Lexar USB keys get at least 9-12 months before the key dies. Two months or less for this Lexar is unacceptable.

Look elsewhere for a USB key.
What's red and black and good all-over? 2005-01-14
This is one excellent product! I've seen other jump drives- with caps that come off and can allow dust to enter the mechanism. But not this one! This Jump Drive features a rubber cap that can only be intentionally dislodged. I've been carrying this one around in my purse for months now (this is quite a bit of abuse) and it is still working great. I originally bought this item at Target because it was on sale for half the price of other drives, but I would definitely choose this product again. The keychain feature makes it very handy and the LED let's you know whether it is in use or not. Very quick file transfer and great directions too. A very nice gift for that always-on-the-go Valentine.
Very Good! Survived the Washing Machine & Dryer! 2004-12-01
This is my first jump drive and it has beat all of my expectations!

It is fast and easily fits into the narrow USB slot on the front of my work computer. Many of my friends who own other brands have had trouble getting theirs to fit. The rubber cap is especially cool. It has a loop that surrounds the entire drive. Nice and secure. No lost caps!

The other day I thought I had lost my drive, only to discover it in the clothes dryer. It had gone through an entire wash and dry cycle in the pocket of my pants! Still worked like a champ with no data loss...

Highly recommended!!
It broke 2004-11-23
I was told how indestructible thumb drives are compared to floppies, so I decided to invest and buy a good one. I picked this one because of the price and I like the design. I thought this drive was awesome until one day all computers just stopped recognizing it. I had this thumb drive for less than a month when this happened, and was very carful to take care of it. The plastic casing on it broke, splitting into two sections. Now all my files are lost and I spent $40 bucks on something that was, in my opinion, poorly put together. I recommend going with another thumb drive, this one has a really poor design

Don't buy this product, its not worth it.
Excellent 2004-11-23
I really like this jump drive. I have been using it almost daily for more than 6 months now, and it works VERY quickly and very smoothly. Never a glitch, and it tranfers data really quickly, both when I use a Pentium IV with Windows XP, and when I use my laptop, which has a Pentium III 900. The drive does not work with my old Pentium II 350 that uses Windows 98, though, and I have not been able to find proper drivers to make it work, but I have not tried very hard...
The cap is a very useful addition, and what surprised me very very positively is that after taking the jump drive in and out its cap for about 500 times or more, the cap is as in good shape as it was when I just purchased it. It really did not loosen a bit. I am very happy with this product, and the price is great!

UPDATE: uhm, I have to revise my previous optimism about how sturdy the cap is. After about two years of use, the rubbery cap did break (but the drive still works flawlessly.
It broke in 2 days 2004-11-15
It broke in 2 days. Poor mechanical integrity. Bad product. Will stay away from products by Lexar.
Awesome! 2004-10-28
I've used USB drives before at work but this is the first I've bought for myself. The design is great. I'm a college student, so I love that I can feel safe toting this around in my backpack and I don't have to be too concerned about breaking or losing it. The wrap-around cap is really nice in that aspect. I personally also like the red color because it's harder for me to overlook. It stands out so well that I won't accidentally leave it behind in a computer lab or try to pack up my laptop with it still in. It's also probably the tiniest drive I've ever seen. There are a lot of USB drives out there with less memory that are still bigger than this one. Even with the cap on, it's only about 2 1/2 inches long and barely over a half-inch wide. The profile is very skinny which means there's no problem plugging other things into an adjacent USB port. This isn't true of every drive out there. Overall, it's a great value and a very well-thought-out product.
Excellent Flash Drive but beware of expired promotionals! 2004-10-19
I really appreciate the fact that they are finally shrouding portable drives like this wisely in some kind of rubber or elastomer. This is my second drive and this one can actually take quite a beating!
My only problem and concern with this product is that Lexar still advertised an extened rebate system at the time which unfortunately for me expired before I purchased the drive online. It's nearly impossible to discover on Amazon until it's too late, so research this drive on other seller's sites (Staples, Office Depot) to make sure that this (or any) rebate is still legit!
Lexar Sport 1GB USB Flash Drive 2004-10-18
I just got the 1GB Lexar Sport drive at Fry's Electronics (...). The performance of the Lexar drive is excellent. My old 256mb ZDisk now becomes a partial backup unit. The only part of the the Lexar unit I don't like is the rubber sling arrangement. Aaagh! Too much work, tugging and stretching! I cut the rubber sling in half and superglued the back end back onto the drive and attached a metal chain. Then after some surgery on the cap end, I put another short metal chain on that part. I would prefer a hard plastic end cap with a mechanical 'click' positive lock when it's securely in place.

I found that ONLY by using a flash drive semi-permanently attached to my car keys can I prevent myself from walking off and leaving the flash drive behind in a computer. (The weight of the keys wad has to be supported by something or the USB port will break down out from the strain, so I duct tape a hook to the computer near the USB port and hang the keys on that.(Rube Goldberg take notice.))

Lately I do a lot of my programming work on the flash drive, and now with 1GB of space, 'taking work home' will always be a zero prep proposition. I plan to just back up the flash drive to a hard drive every few days.

These flash drives are the best thing since they put handles and wheels on suitcases.
durable! 2004-10-13
Pros
The 256 mb lexar sport is set at a good price, and for general office type stuff it is basically enough room to replace zip drives or burning data cds-
The rubber cover for this drive is very well designed and protective- against spills and shock and keys grinding against it- it is the JEEP of flash drives

Cons
the "activity light" is supposed to be on only when data is transfering, but my one stays on the whole time the unit is plugged in... who cares though- it works fine.

Great while it lasts 2004-09-19
I bought this sport USB Flash Drive to be able to attach it to my key chain. It worked great for about 4 months. Last week the metal piece inside started to become loose and now both my computers are unable to detect the device. It works if I jiggle it for about 3 minutes but it sometimes stops working during the transfer of data. Needless to say I'm going to buy another one, but I think I will try a different brand! Do NOT use as permanent storage!
Excellent 249 MB portable storage 2004-09-16
Compact, efficient flash USB 2.0 device that gives 249 MB of storage when formatted. Has worked perfectly for me and the price is right. I own three of These: another Lexar, a Sandisk, and this one, which is the best and most convenient.
Works great, but... 2004-09-15
I have a SanDisk Cruzer Mini 256MB USB2 flash drive at work, and bought this Lexar 256MB JUmpdrive USB2 for home use. This Lexar drive works great, as advertised. Fast USB2 transfer, no problem detecting on Win2K Pro and Server.

However, after using both, I've come to the decision that I like the SanDisk Cruzer Mini better in terms of design (NOT in terms of performance). For starters, SanDisk Cruzer Mini is thinner than the Jumpdrive by about 1/3. Also, when the Cruzer Mini is connected to the USB port, one end of the flash drive lights up and blinks with activity. Real bright and obvious. When you use the "Unplug or Eject Hrdware" function to remove the drive, the light goes off, so you know when it's safe to remove the drive.

The Jumpdrive also has a light, but it's a tiny light built into one side of the the main body. So, if for whatever reason your USB port interface is upside down (as it is with my 3.5" bay In-Win I530 media reader), you can't see the light at all! It also blinks with file activity, but it's nowhere as bright nor obvious as the Cruzer Mini model. Because of the small size of the light, it's very difficult to see when it's lit and when it's not.

One additional distinction between the two: the Cruzer Mini comes with stand-alone plastic cap that's loose when not attached to the drive (i.e., when the drive is plugged into the computer). The Cruzer Mini comes with a lanyard to wear it around your neck--not very convenient unless you use it only in your office. The Jumpdrive's cap is a molded rubber-type that wraps around the flash drive and also comes with a keyring hole. To be honest, though, I don't know how long the keyring hole will last before breaking.

In terms of performance, the Cruzer Mini and the Jumpdrive are about the same. However, for the interface design and ease of use, I'd give a nod to the Cruzer Mini.
A Rubber and Plastic Fantasy 2004-08-27
Tantalizing to the touch, so sensuous with it's form-fitting rubber outfit, this Lexar Sport 256MB knick-knack that I describe here lives in another world, a more beautiful place where all things are possible and computers still hold the magic and promise they once held years ago. This little device..has Greatness in it.

It is a priceless jewel, rising above the mountains of computer-crap produced all around by the Great LEXAR's also-ran competitors..

It is an Olympic Hero among AAA-baseball wash-outs.
The American Soldier among the army of (...) u.n. peacekeepers.
The super-hot Jessica Biel posing among the Jessica Simpson clones.
The teak tree in the pine pulpwood forest.
The wry Steve Martin in the haystack of snide Jerry Seinfelds.
The majestic Oprah Winfrey in a field of Star Jones's.
etc.

Run, don't walk and buy this wonderful little contraption today! With this on your keychain the happiness will overwhelm you.
Well Design Product & Good Customer Service ... 2004-08-25
I had problem with the initial 256 Sport where it only showed 122MB after format. Lexar support is VERY good & responded quickly after I reported this particular defective drive. Email response was within 24hr, and within a couple days of sending the bad drive in, I have a new one at my door -- and it's been fine so far.

It's rugged, small, USB 2.0-fast and it's a "plug-n-play" device - no software needed (I use Win2000.) Rubber cap is fine, very sturdy. You can put this in a pocket, keychain or hang around your neck (wish it comes with lanyard.)

I've used it to store & transfer pix from my digital camera, music files, word processing docs, etc. Very handy indeed. I think 512MB would be a better choice for me since I use this device frequently.

I would recommend this product. 4.5 stars !!
Good Flash Drive 2004-07-19
So far I am happy with Lexar's Sport JumpDrive. I have the 256mb and the 64mb versions. Once you get the rubber cap off it works well (many people knock the rubber cap but it is there for a reason).
Terrific! 2004-07-15
I love the design of this drive. It is slim, and has a rubber cover. You can hang it around your neck, or stick it in your pocket. Very rugged, and as far as I'm concerned, it has the best design of any of the drives I have used. I would not hesitate to recommend this drive, as it has worked flawlessly for me. No drivers to install, just plug it in. I am thinking about getting the 512 Sport now!
Works great--simple, sturdy, and flexible 2004-06-09
I use this thing to carry files to and from work. It works flawlessly with no drivers needed on a PC running Windows XP and on a Mac G4 running OS9.2. I've also loaded it up with MP3 music to play on a portable jumpdrive MP3 player, which also works flawlessly. Unlike another review that I've read, this one works fine in the remote USB port on the Mac's keyboard, I don't have to plug it into the back of the G4. The slim design means it fits in easily beside other USB cables when the ports are spaced close together, as they always seem to be. File transfer is fast fast fast on a USB2 port. The rubber case is really sturdy--I've attached it to my keys so that I can dump it in my pocket and forget about it until I need it, and it's always right there. The "sport" concept is a really good idea--it's sturdy and rugged and can handle bouncing around with coins and keys as I go about my daily life. No special software needed, works on different platforms, rides in my pocket, tough enough that I can forget about it when I'm not using it--what more could you ask for? It's perfect.
I love it....it fits in nicely in a crowded hub 2004-06-01
I just bought mine today, and I wish I had 3 more! I had been satisfied with the Purple one and the Blue one, but their bulbous shapes make it difficult to use in a 4 or even 7 port USB hub....you have to jockey the others around in order to get space for those. Not with the Lexar Sport! It's slim shape allow it to fit right in. And I LOVE the fact that the lid is rubber, and fits around the drive sturdily. A chain or lanyard holds onto the lid, so you take the drive off and use, then replace. Why didnt they think of this before? I cant tell you how many of the other lids I have lost, misplaced, stepped on, leaving the USB ports naked. Thanks Lexar for designing this one!
Excellent! But I wish I'd bought 512MB! 2004-05-29
I bought 2 of these flash drives because of its price (less than $60) and for its flexible rubber cap that wraps around the whole drive, so losing the cap is a near impossible. I am using it as a permanent part of my toolkit as a PC repair technician, wearing it around my neck. It is also small and thin: not much larger that Sandisk's USB drives.

Due to the size of files I transfer on a day to day basis, I think I have to buy Lexar's 512MB drive instead very soon.

Only one grouse with the drive: no lanyard in the package!! but it is THE best brand to buy in terms of design. Well done, Lexar!
