Not worthy of the money
2007-01-10

| it's hard to tune in and out to shorten or extend the legs, and when you hold the camera, you don't want to get your hands dirty by holding the legs which may stick into the dirts to tune it back in. also, it's not always tuning the far end first then the upper ones, so it's awkward once a while. |

A nice lightweight and easy to use tripod
2006-08-05

This was my first and only (so far) tripod, so I can't say how it compares to other tripods, but I've been having a great time with it. The carrying bag that comes with it has a rather small strap, which might be too small for some people - it easily fits in a backpack or camera bag though.
The locking/unlocking mechanism for the legs works pretty well, as does the head swiveling. I thought it might be too lightweight to hold a Canon Rebel XT plus a big lens, but I haven't had any problems with shake on long duration shots with a fairly heavy macro or 300mm telephoto.
The main thing this tripod lacks, in my experience with it so far, is a quick release system for the camera. These can be purchased separately though (and placed on the camera), so the option is there - for a price - if you need it. |

Excellent hiking tripod

I'm sure that hardcore photographers will dis this tripod, but I am very happy with it. It is remarkably light, very compact due to the lack of locking knobs on the legs, and fits right in a small backpack. I bought it so that on hikes I would have a tripod in case I needed one and it serves that need perfectly. It's steady enough to hold my SLR with a 200mm lens, which is as big as I'm going to carry into the woods.
If you're serious about photography you'll want a heavier model when you're not traveling far, but you won't do better than this one if you're carrying your gear on your back. |

Great product!

| Small, light, and short when folded, long and sturdy enough for a DSLR with a lens when stretched. A very good product for travel. |

Solid and TINY

I bought this tripod to take hiking with me and it does that job better than anything I have ever seen.
Folded this tripod is absolutely tiny and very light. It looks and feels like a toy. But extended this pod is nearly as tall as a full sized pod weighing 4 times as much. With the legs fully extended they are a bit flexible, but nothing too bad and more than stiff enough for shots as slow as 1 second, even slower on a calm day.
I use this tripod with a Nikon N50 which weighs 3 1/2 pounds with lens. Not the heaviest setup in the world, but certainly not light. This tripod supports this weight, even in vertical orientation very well, better even than my old full sized tripod.
The ball head is fantastic. Unlocked it is very fluid, giving complete freedom to frame the shot however you see fit, once locked that camera stays exactly where I put it, no creep or movement whatsoever.
This tripod does not have any built in spirit level but with the ball head such would be useless anyway as the ball head can move in any direction relative to the legs. I would recommend a camera mounted level, such as one that attaches to the hot shoe, if alignment with the horizon and such are important to your shot.
While hiking I just leave the tripod attached to my camera, collapse the legs, and carry the whole thing on my neck strap with one hand to keep the camera from swinging around, the same as I do when I have no tripod at all.
The included carry bag is well made, and the bottom is double layered, but the strap is a bit too short for me to put over my shoulder, but I have carried it on my belt using the strap as a big belt loop, which works well enough. It's certainly a great place to store the pod and keeps it protected from scratches and small dings when no in use.
This tripod would easily fit in any backpack with tons of room to spare, or even in a medium to large multi compartment camera bag. I have even carried it in my coat pocket.
In conclusion, this tripod is well worth the money and certainly not a flimsy toy. |
